Ted’s practice is unique in that he brings his clients a very comprehensive “real world” experience for advice on legal, tax and financial matters. After beginning his career as a tax attorney for a “Big Four” accounting firm he spent twenty five years helping manage companies through start-up, high growth, restructuring, bankruptcy and turnaround cycles as the CEO and CFO of both public and private national companies. Throughout this time Ted was also responsible for all legal matters, including over $100 million of debt and equity financings, bank credit and inter-creditor agreements, negotiating and drafting hundreds of commercial and retail leases, amendments and lease terminations, managing litigation and other general corporate matters. Having this corporate experience has given Ted the ability to bring a results oriented and simplified focus for his clients throughout even the most complicated transactions.
Ted graduated from St. Ignatius College Preparatory in San Francisco in 1974 and Santa Clara University with a B.S. in Political Science in 1978. He received a Juris Doctor degree from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1981, where he was an editor of The Santa Clara Law Review. He also received a Master of Business Administration degree from the Leavey School of Business at Santa Clara University in 1982. Ted was admitted to the California State Bar in 1982.
Ted began his career as a tax attorney in the San Francisco office of the international accounting firm Deloitte & Touche, LLP and then practiced in the areas of estate planning, tax and corporate law before taking on the challenges of corporate life as the CFO and CEO (and managing all legal affairs) of a variety of public and private (and divisions of Fortune 100 and 500) companies, including Design Within Reach, Prints Plus, Supercuts, ACA JOE and Impostors.
Ted has been a member of the Advisory Board to the Retail Management Institute in the Leavey School of Business at Santa Clara University since 1997 and was Chairman of the Board from 2002-2006.
